As community and state leaders interested in education during a time when new budget cuts from Richmond will constrain our localities, I bring to your attention a creative, innovative concept being promoted by former Senator George Allen, former Virginia Democratic Party Chairman Paul Goldman, and Governor Tim Kaine using potential federal and state tax credits to update school buildings 50 years or older that could result in additional private capital for schools in our communities, new jobs, energy efficient facilities for educating our youth, and a benefit to our taxpayers.

 It certainly appears that this concept is worthy of our perusal and may merit  our individual and collective support to begin a conversation and advocate for a small change in the federal tax code to stimulate the economy and improve our schools. Perhaps a win-win for Newport News.
